OCR: Confucius and His Analects Confucius, a native of the state of Lu in the Spring and Autumn Period, is the greatest philosopher and edu- cator in ancient Chinese civilization. Among the three thousand pupils he had, seventy-two were notable. His disciples compiled what he had taught them into a book known as Lun Yu (the Analects) which covered almost all the Confucian maxims-e.g. "Open-minded study" (Do not feel ashamed to ask one's subordinates or people below) , "When three walk together, there must be one who can teach me."
